Abstract: 【 Purpose/significance】 National security receives the unprecedented attention in the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. In order to promote China's national security research in the new era, it is necessary to review the progress of China's national security research, and forecast the future directions of China's national security research combining with the national security related statements in the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. 【Method/pro⁃ cess】 The knowledge mapping of China's national security studies from 2001 to 2021 is drawn by using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. Meanwhile, the characteristics of the literatures (such as the age distribution, author institution, published journal and frontier hot spots) are analyzed.【 Result/conclusion】 The overall China's national security research was increased with fluctuation over the past 20 years, but the research system is still not perfect, there is lack of the close cooperative network of national security research, the longi⁃ tudinal depth of research is insufficient, and the frontier directions are scattered. According to the literature review and the national se⁃ curity related statements in the Report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, China's national security stud⁃ ies in the future should be promoted from the following aspects: the construction of national security science in the new era, the mod⁃ ernization of national security system and capability, the construction of national security intelligence science, the modernization of na⁃ tional security intelligence system and capability, as well as the new thinking, new theories and new methods of national security in the safety & security six-high era.【 Innovation/limitation】 This study is the macro analysis of China's national security studies, which can provide beneficial references for the follow-up research of China's national security, but it needs to be further deepened at the micro level.
