Abstract: 【Purpose/significance】A quantitative analysis of the application of research methods in the field of digital humanities,
which facilitates a deeper understanding of the digital humanities methodological system.【Method/process】This study provides a con‐tent analysis of 3245 papers published in international journals and conferences in digital humanities. A coding table of digital hu‐manities research methods, a coding table of research method usage patterns, and a coding table of research themes were compiled. On this basis, this paper statistically analyzed the applying of using research methods, the different ways of using research methods, the thematic distribution and the co-occurrence of research methods.【Result/conclusion】The study found that scholars in the field of digital humanities mostly use empirical research methods and have less application of normative research methods. And the majority of papers still stay at a lower level for the use of research methods. The proportion of applying multiple methods in digital humanities is higher than in other fields. Overall, digital humanities research prefers to use computer information technology-related methods and case study methods to deal with problems. Based on this, this paper makes suggestions on the selection, use and expansion of digital humanities research methods, as well as the optimization and improvement of the digital humanities methodological system.【Innova‐tion/limitation】This paper reveals the current situation of the application and development of the methodological system in the field of digital humanities, which is a contribution to the further deepening of the study. However, the data sample is difficult to fully reveal the application of research methods in the field of digital humanities.
