Abstract

To understand the thematic trends of research in the international archival field, this study performed an analysis of articles published in six English archival journals over the past three years using the method of content analysis. Ten major research areas were identified, including archival activism, archival access, outreach and use, records management, information governance, archival profession, the use of information technology in records and archives management, history of recordkeeping, archival education, archival theory, and digital preservation. Progress made in each area has seen a growing trend of multidisciplinary and practice oriented research, and an equal emphasis on both classics and frontier in the international archival field.
