On March, 2015, the New York Times revealed that the former Secretary of state Hillary Clinton used a private email account for her government business during her tenure for four years, which is suspected of illegal. Hillary's attitude toward and the processing ways on E-mail scandal is the main cause of the media and public criticism. From the perspective of archives, this paper points out where Hillary Clinton’s fault lies in: making no distinction between public and private interest which endangered the government information security and deleting the email and destroying the complete of file integrity ,as well as broking and violating the law for using private email server and deleting email. the papen also includes disregarding archives because of weak consciousness on archives of government officials and vulnerabilities of the government records system. Ending with Clinton’s imperfect personal image and baffled political career, E-mail scandal damaged the United States government credibility and threatens the national information security. Learning from this E-mail scandal, what we should do is to put an end to use private email server for government business and improve information security awareness. On the basis of strong consciousness of archives, the government must strengthen the enforcement of archives laws and regulations and establishing accountability mechanism.
