：Building a service-oriented government is one of important duties of the Party in the new historical conditions from the point of view of building socialism with Chinese characteristics, which is of great significance for a thorough implementation of the scientific outlook on development and the construction of socialism harmonious society. On this background archival work, as an important component part of government functions should play a new role with corresponding duties. This paper mainly discusses three parts: the connotation of service-oriented government, the new role of archival work and new duties of archival organizations.
