ISO published “Document management applications -- Archiving of electronic data -- Computer output microform (COM) / Computer output laser disc (COLD) (ISO 11506:2009)” in June 2009. Based on the standard, the necessity of copying data from electronic media on computers onto microfilm is described, the history of COM is reviewed, the type of COM is introduced, the dependence of “advanced” digital records storage on the “backward” analog film technology is discussed, the conditional microform archives storage is emphasized, and finally it is concluded that D/A mixed system is the best choice in this field.
