The article introduces some of the research achievements made and problems solved by the Institute of Science and Technical Research on Archives on archives safekeeping and preservat ion technology in the past few years, which including the remarkable achievements in research on the preservation of the paper-based achieves; the abundant results in the research on the produ ction of the non-paper achieves; the prominent characteristics in research on archives library construction; and giving many recommendations for promotion, publicity and application of scienti fic research and so on.
