Three Members of SSWC Editorial Board Rewarded as National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Worker in 7th Session Assessment

Professor Liu Guobing, Liu Baoyuan, and Yu Xinxiao, members of editorial board in SSWC were rewarded as National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Worker(NOSTW) in 7th session assessment, they were recommended by Chinese Society of Soil and Water Conservation, and evaluated by Chinese Association for Science and Technology.

Professor Liu Guobing mainly focuses the researches and demos on soil and water conservation and ecological restoration in the Loess Plateau, consecutively held the various projects, i.e., tackling the key scientific and technological problems in Anse demon area for the National Regional Agriculture of “8th 5-Year Plan”, “9th 5-Year Plan”, “12th 5-Year Plan” in the Loess Plateau,National Support Plan for Science and Technology of “11th 5-Year Plan” and “12th 5-Year Plan”, 973 Program, Action Plan for Western China by Chinese Academy of Sciences, and international cooperative programs.

He contributed outstandingly to the comprehensive governance of soil erosion in the hilly-gully region of the Loess Plateau, researches on demos of agricultural development, strategies about soil and water conservation as well as ecological construction, the mechanisms of vegetation on soil and water conservation as well as assessment of its efficiency, evaluation theories on the health of ecological system in a basin.

Professor Liu Baoyuan spends his efforts on soil erosion and soil and water conservation, he managed the following projects, i.e., international programs with European Union, National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program), National Program on Key Basic Research Project (briefed as 973 Program), National Support Plan for Science and Technology, etc.

He developed the model of soil erosion in China, designed and implemented the Census of Soil Erosion in the 1st National Census of Hydrology supervised by State Council during 2010- 2012. He made extraordinary contributions to the mechanisms and models of soil erosion, monitoring and assessment of soil erosion, research and experimental methods of soil erosion, etc.

Professor Yu Xinxiao concentrates on the soil and water conservation, protection forest, ecological hydrology. He continuously managed the following projects, i.e., National Support Plan for Science and Technology, National Natural Science Foundation of China (Key Program), National Program on Key Basic Research Project (briefed as 973 Program), National Project for Introducing the Advanced Agricultural Technology (briefed as 948 Program), Public Welfare Project Specially for Forestry, etc.

He achieved greatly on the regulatory mechanism of forest vegetation on the soil erosion, the architecture, structure optimization and spatial allocation technologies of protection forest, and the regulation of typical forest vegetation on the producing process of water resources.

About the prize of “National Outstanding Scientific and Technical Worker”:  It was initiated in 1997 and aimed specially for all people working in the fields of science and technologies by Chinese Association for Science and Technology. It is assessed in every 2 years in whole China, and in each time the number of total rewarded personnel is approximate 500. It mainly rewards the scientific and technical personnel working for scientific research, development, extension, and popularization, aiming at promoting the scientific and technological personnel to dedicate themselves on their own researches.

About Chinese Association for Science and Technology: The China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) is the largest national non-governmental organization of scientific and technological workers in China, which also serves as the bridge that links the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government to the country's science and technology community. Through its member societies - 207 in number - and local branches all over the country, the organization maintains close ties with millions of Chinese scientists, engineers and other people working in the fields of science and technology.
