Elected as a Member of the IRDR SC

 

Deputy Editor-in-Chief of this journal, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Professor Cui Peng in the Chengdu Institute of Mountain Hazards and Environment, was elected as a member of Scientific Committee of Integrated Research on Disaster Risk (IRDR) in the 14th Conference of IRDR Scientific Committee in South Africa, and his duty lasts until December 31 2018. He is the sole member from China since IRDR established in 2010.

 

The election result was announced jointly by the International Council for Science (ICSU), the International Social Science Council (ISSC) and the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), 5 well-known experts from global disaster research field were elected as the new members of IRDR Scientific Committee, and other 4 are from Australia, UK, Japan, and Rwanda respectively. So far, there are 16 members in IRDR Scientific Committee, 4 of 16 are ex officio members.

 

IRDR Scientific Plan is an interdisciplinary plan for challenging the global natural disaster, featured as integrating the multiple- disciplines and fields of natural sciences, social economics, health care and engineering, policy decision and public security etc. i.e., each discipline may play its own characteristic role, and concurrently multiple disciplinary research may be proceeded. The major tasks of IRDR Scientific Plan are to promote the coordination of multidisciplinary fields and all relevant organizations, therefore, to increase the ability of researching disaster risks, and to evidently and efficiently make decision and implement the practices in disaster risks. The main duties of IRDR Scientific Committee include: formulating and improving the development plan of IRDR, and supervising as well as inspecting the projects, activities, and financial issues in IRDR.
