Abstract To discuss the effect of slope protecting with vegetation and afford theoretical and technical references for vegetation restoration and reconstruction on highway side slope,the ecological effects of revegetation on highway side slope was studied based on the restoration ecology principle in supported highway construction project in intermediate section of Inner Mongolia,and the result shows that: 1) the degree of vegetation on highway side slope must be keep to some extent;2) succession of artificial vegetation community on highway side slope can gradually incline to natural community after a lot of years;3) the choice and use of plant species must combine with natural environment in the region;4) vegetation on highway side slope play a prominence role for soil and water conservation.
