Abstract: 【Purpose/significance】Smart space is one of the important hubs for the smart transformation of libraries. Promoting the con⁃ struction of virtual-physical integrated library smart space helps to enhance the efficiency of library smart services and optimize user experience.【Method/process】Taking Charles Library at Temple University in North America as the research object, this study em⁃ ploys the SECI model to analyze the construction status of the three sub-spaces of Charles Library—physical space, virtual space, and support space. It summarizes the strengths and weaknesses of smart space construction to provide insights for the construction of li⁃ brary smart spaces in China.【Result/conclusion】People, resources, and technology are the three core elements of library smart space. Based on these core elements, the proposed virtual-physical integrated smart space eliminates the barriers between physical and vir⁃ tual spaces, achieving library smart services under the integrated space【. Innovation/limitation】By comprehensively analyzing the con⁃ struction status of typical library smart spaces, this study proposes the construction strategy of library smart space from the perspective of the integrated development of physical and virtual spaces.
