Abstract: 【Purpose/significance】Fundamental research and technological innovation are two major types of research work in scien⁃ tific research. Accurately identifying the characteristics of knowledge correlation patterns of fundamental research and technological innovation will help to promote the promotion of fundamental research and technological innovation in the development of science. 【Method/process】This article characterizes fundamental research and technological innovation with papers and patents respectively, adopts natural language processing (NLP) technology to recognize the respective knowledge correlations in fundamental research and technological innovation based on papers and patent topics. The characteristics and differences of the knowledge correlation patterns between fundamental research and technological innovation are analyzed at multiple levels【. Result/conclusion】The results show that the topics of fundamental research are relatively scattered, the knowledge correlations between the topics are relatively sparse, and the inheritance of domain core knowledge is strong; the topics in technological innovation are relatively concentrated, the internal knowl⁃ edge correlations are relatively rich, and the knowledge update iteration speed is faster.【Innovation/limitation】Explored the pattern characteristics and differences of knowledge correlation in basic research and technological innovation from the perspective of knowl⁃ edge correlation. Using scientific papers and technical patents to characterize fundamental research and technological innovation is only a basic way of division. Due to space limitations, no more in-depth cross-border tracking of specific topics has been done.
