Abstract In order to enhance survival rate of trees planted in difficult sites and reduce sandstorm harm to Beijing, solid water application experiment was carried out for afforestation in the desolate alluvial flat of Longqingxia in Yanqing County of Beijing.Through statistical software S-PLUS,the survival rate and relevant growth indexes of plants were analyzed so as to study the application effect of solid water. The result indicated that in the first three months the solid water can enhance afforestation survival rate prominently which is over 90%.Meanwhile,with the increased employment quantity of solid water, the survival rate and relevant growth indexes of plants increased correspondingly. The slow release of water and constant water supply without leakage make the afforestation technology of solid water more suitable for application in arid areas where irrigation is difficult in production.
