Abstract This paper analyses the vegetation restoration problems in rocky slopes, such as brittle ecological effect, difficult maintenance, high construction cost, and non-permanence of the revegetation effect. Based on soil properties, degree of revegetation difficulty and restoration target, the paper divides rocky slopes into two kinds : one is the hard rocky slope, the other the rotten rocky slope, emphasizing that the revegetation in the rocky slopes should follow the principles of stabilization of the slope and the vegetation succession. It mainly discusses the greening method by using lianas in hard slopes, and proposes that basic research and new techniques should be applied to the rotten rocky slope on the premise that the current techniques have been mature in this field.
