Abstract Soil erosion models are technique tools for soil and water conservation. But soil erosion models have limitations in model factors achieving, model-operation and results analysis. GIS has been employed in soil and water conservation work, mainly focused on factor achieving, model-operation and visual results analysis. The combination of these three applications is soil and water conservation decision making supporting GIS information system. At the same time, the application of GIS in soil and water conservation still has problems such as accuracy, error, and applicability. With the development of GIS, these problems will be conquered; what's more, GIS will provide much more methods or thinking ways for soil and water conservation in modeling, model operation and ways of analysis and display.
