Abstract The thesis probes into the conceptions for vegetation restoration and construction in the North-west region of China. 8 principles are put forward and required when implementing the vegetation construction projects which include cropland conversion to forest, nature forest conservation, sand land prevention and control, etc. Those principles are as follows: unified layout with harmony; constructing multi-type vegetations and giving priority to local vegetation; combining artificial and nature means with focusing on nature ways; integrating protection, development and utilization with centering on protection; fully using seed resources with stressing on local tree species;rational utilizing water resources with emphasizing on constructing no irrigation vegetation; combining tree, shrub and grass while shrub and grass take priority; using different kinds of propagation materials with focusing on seed breeding and nature "clone".
