Abstract: 【Purpose/significance】With China′s accelerated population aging, the balance of the basic pension fund has become the core issue. Although the academia has some research experience on aspects like the operation mode, efficiency and equity of the basic pension system, existing research on the financial sustainability of basic pension funds shows a convergence tendency in content and paradigm.【Method/process】Based on traditional general dimensions, this paper creatively constructs a proprietary dimension with two sub-dimensions of research object and research location, and then builds a multi-dimensional comprehensive analysis framework. Us⁃ ing text coding, bibliometrics, content analysis and other methods, it systematically summarizes the characteristics and deficiencies of the literature. Taking the literature related to the financial sustainability of basic pension funds in Web of Science and CNKI as the analysis objects, and relying on bibliometric methods like keyword co-occurrence and time clustering, this paper systematically re⁃ views the research status in this field and proposes future research hotspots【. Result/conclusion】The research indicates that the finan⁃ cial sustainability of China′s basic pension fund is still in the initial exploration stage with insufficient relevant literature. The current research weakness lies in its shallow discussion from a single perspective. There is no research consensus on the factors influencing the pension system′s balance and the quantitative method for predicting future deficits. The research in this field has much room for enhancing its comprehensiveness and depth.【Innovation/limitation】Follow-up studies can, based on the multi-dimensional analysis framework of this paper, adopt meta-analysis and other methods to dig deeper into research details, offering theoretical guidance for the sustainable operation of China′s basic pension fund.
