LIANG Xi (12.1883 – 12.1958), a forester, a forestry educator, a social activist, and a member of the Academic Department of the Chinese Academy of Science. As an outstanding pioneer in modern forestry sciences and forestry works in China, he raised the idea of fully developing forestry for utilizing the various benefits of forest and therefore serving the national economic construction. He led to formulate the principles of forestry works and construction planning at the early stage of P. R. China. Based on his efforts, the forestry administration, scientific research, education and production system was n initially established throughout China, which promoted the vigorous development of forestry in P. R. China. He had been engaged in the experimental research of pine tree lipid mining, camphor manufacturing, tung oil extraction and wood dry distillation for a long time, and established the discipline of forest production and manufacturing chemistry in China. |
