Great news from the 3rd World Conference of World Association of Soil and Water Conservation (WASWAC) held at Belgrade in August 22-26 of 2016, Professor Wang Lixian received Norman Hudson Memory Award of 2014, he was Editor-in-Chief of Science of Soil and Water Conservation (SSWC) during Oct. 2007 – Feb. 2015.
Professor Wang Lixian, aged 82, has long been engaged in the research work of soil and water conservation and desertification control, and has achieved remarkably in the research of soil and water conservation projects, watershed management, and water and soil conservation measure system in mountainous areas.
He is the first person to propose the classification of torrent and mapping of hazardous area. Also he is the prior to apply the computer information management technology and remote sensing technology into the investigation of soil erosion and soil and water conservation planning in small watersheds of China’s mountainous areas, and to introduce the geographic information system and expert system into mountainous watershed management. He was the editor-in-chief of first bookof Soil and Water Conservation Engineering in China, in which the connotation, purpose, principle and measure system of soil and water conservation in China are defined.
He was appointed as a consultant of negotiation committee for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) by UNDP, and as a senior consultant for the China National Coordination Group for Combating Desertification and the Chinese Executive Committee for UNCCD.
Has presided over 10 major scientific research projects at national and provincial (ministerial) level, won 3 times of 2nd prize of National Progress for Science and Technology, 4 times of 2nd prizes in ministerial level, as editor-in-chief or co-author or author for 20 of textbooks, books and monographs, and published more than 100 academic papers.

Norman Hudson Memory Award is the key prize set by WASWAC, which is award to distinguished personnel who has made outstanding contributions to soil erosion and soil and water conservation globally.
