Abstract The fundamental theory and method for comprehensive assessment of ecological restoration of abandoned quarry, using the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), was introduced in this paper.Comprehensive assessment index system in ecological restoration comprehensive assessment of abandoned quarry is set up and the weight of each index is calculated by AHP. The results show that among the 21 indexes of the system, 5 indexes with the largest weights were ranked as follows: species diversity, community structure, water and soil conservation, vegetation coverage, ornamental value. This viewpoint indicates that the primary factor of assessing ecological restoration of abandoned quarry is of ecological benefit. Meanwhile, the result also shows that AHP is an advantageous method over ordinary qualitative analysis for the assessment of ecological restoration of abandoned quarry, and is also conducive to draw the conclusions in line with the actual situation, and to provide scientific foundation for demonstrating the feasibility of the project.
