Abstract Dynamic variation of distribution pattern of water conservation forest in the last 20 years in Guishui river basin of upper reaches of Guan Ting was reservoir analyzed.The results showed that the forest cover rate increase straightly from 10.96% in 1975 to 46.61% in 2000.The area of cash forest increases rapidly about 150hm2 each year.The main tree species composition is becoming variety from 4 in 1975 to 8 in 2000.So it is considered that the situation of water conservation forest in Guishui river basin is better and better,but also there are many problems,such as too many cash forest causing environment pollution and irrational distribution of forest vegetation in the watershed and so on.
