Abstract Based on broad-leaved Pinus koraiensis forest gap in Xiao Xing'an Mountains,micro-environmental variation feature of soil surface temperature in the gap was studied by geographical statistics' method. Results showed that soil surface temperature demonstrated by a single peak changing tendency in the months. The mean and maximum soil surface temperature was higher at June, and mean daily range of that was higher at initial and final stage of the forest growth. The greater variation of soil surface temperature that belongs to medium variation was found in May,and these of other months were weaker. The differences of spatial heterogeneity of soil surface temperature were presented between different months. The spatial heterogeneity of autocorrelation was the main part of the total, and showed greater variation. The complexities and patch grades of distribution of soil surface temperature were different between experimental months, and higher value areas that located at east and north-west of the gap were asymmetric.
